Dai Haifei, a 24-year-old architect in Beijing, China, found an ingenious solution to live rent-free. He built himself a mobile egg-shaped house that is powered by the sun.
The 6-foot-high structure, which is small enough to fit on a sidewalk, is made of bamboo strips, wood chippings, sack bags, and grass seed that’s expected to grow in the spring.
The pod features a solar panel on the roof that powers a lamp in the cozy space. The house cost around $1,000 to build (6427 yen), according to China Daily.
It seems Haifei has taken the trend of living in tiny spaces to a whole new level.

How could he live on the sidewalk?

That's....not really "living". It's got no food preparation area, no place for personal hygiene, etc, etc. It's just a glorified tent.

WIthout a bathroom or kitchen, I wouldn't call that living.

Hummm! What if he passes gas inside? He will more than likely hyperventilate; unless he enjoys his own gas! What if a dog pees on the sides? The grass seeds are not going to grow.... Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Google "birth control" or "abstinence"....

My xenophobia is really kicking in, I am tired about hearing about China, the Chinese, and anything related to that culture.... Ironically, I have nothing but respect for other cultures, Islam, India, etc....

Well I can dig the small living space scene but does this home have a bathroom and shower? Small is cool but health and hygiene is important.
I would just like to know

My kid would love one in the back yard. No but seriously maybe we could get a few hundred of these and drop them off under the freeways in Seattle. It rains a TON and there are A LOT of homeless living next to and under the freeways.

It is a nice doggy house for my future german shepherd or for my future chihuahua couple. The doggy door should be like on one side. The human door should be on the other side; you know, to clean it in case there are any dog turds. Bahahahahahahaha!

Give it another month and it will be stinking to high-heaven. I'm suprised the Chinese police haven't drug him out and beat the crap out of him already.

he may be able to live rent free in Beijing, but here in Ny he would be charged maintenance fees, taxes, and im pretty sure he would get a ticket for no houses on sidewalks.

that's an idea of rent free, but does the government allow people just to built their living spaces righ on the side walk,, what if there are more of that growing right on the side walk, and the next thing , more toilet be built right next to it. picture it in your vision,it's out of control.
